Job Title/Positions: Wildlife Tech 2/Position #s 00219649 & 00099771 Location: Wildlife Resources Conservation Center, Social Circle, Georgia

Job Responsibilities: Under the supervision of wildlife biologists, the wildlife technicians will be responsible for entering and editing records of rare species in the NatureServe Biotics database. The wildlife technicians will also assist with the development, improvement, and maintainance of other geospatial databases supporting the conservation of high priority species and habitats. They will assist with special Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) projects including management and protection of rare species in GDOT right-of-ways. The wildlife technians will assist other staff members with the collection, organization and entry of high priority species data and assist with projects to improve the efficiency and accuracy of Georgia DNR’s environmental review process. Depending upon qualifications and experience, one position will focus primarily on aquatic species data collection and management while the other position will focus primarily on terrestrial species data collection and management. This job is expected to be approximately 80% computer-based work and 20% fieldwork with ocassional overnight travel.

Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree or equivalent coursework (90 quarter hours or 60 semester hours) in Wildlife Management or related field from an accredited college or university OR High school diploma or GED AND two years of experience in the Wildlife Resources Division as a Wildlife Tech 1 (NRT010) or position equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. A bachelor’s degree in fisheries, wildlife, or a related field.
  2. Experience and familiarity with the NatureServe Biotics database, including data entry and the natural heritage methodology.
  3. Experience maintaining & developing spreadsheets & databases including Excel, Access and Oracle.
  4. Knowledge of and experience working with high priority animals, plants and natural communities in the southeastern United States.
  5. Experience completing surveys and collecting and organizing fisheries and/or wildlife related data.
  6. Experience and/or training with ArcMap, ArcPro, ArcOnline or other GIS programs.
