As part of your fellowship, you will develop and conduct independent research to support ongoing projects at the Conservation Institute, including community ecology, ecotoxicology, and the conservation status of southeastern fishes. You will also assist with fieldwork and lab analyses conducted by Conservation Institute science staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research in southeastern aquatic conservation biology.
- Prepare a scientific presentation to be presented to the Aquarium staff at the end of summer.
- Assist with the propagation of Lake Sturgeon, Brook Trout, and other live animals as needed.
- Interact with Conservation Institute science staff to support ongoing research projects.
- Assist with education and conservation science outreach programs.
- Assist with lab and field work as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Key Requirements
- Currently enrolled in college as an undergraduate student in biology or a related field, applicants who graduated in December 2022 are also eligible.
- Background knowledge in aquatic ecology preferred.
- Good working knowledge of computers, frequent use of Excel and Word.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision and as a team.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Responsible for own transportation from campus housing to the Conservation Institute (approx.10-min drive).
Seasonal, hourly; 40 hours/week from 15 May to 28 July 2023 (limited flexibility in start and end dates); $14.00 hourly wage; weekend and holiday work may be required;
Fellowship includes University of Tennessee at Chattanooga campus housing & campus parking.
